2008 - The Year That Was

It’s 2009 yahoo! Well I have a lot of things to be happy and thankful for. 2008 has been really wonderful as a whole, although I could not say the whole year was, but if I were to look at the blessings that I have received towards the end of the year, I can say they totally surmounted all the not so good things that had happened during the first and second quarter of the year.

Last year, I resigned from my job at Eversun Software Philippines Corporation a.k.a Agents of Value (AOV). Although the pay is fine, I had to make the decision to quit the job mainly because I am no longer happy with it. Not that I am not happy with my job, but not happy with the environment – the lousy admins (who were all after the positions that they were holding), some officemates who would do anything to discredit people (the crab mentality that Filipinos have). Don’t get me wrong. I do have several good sincere friends in the office.

It is just a pity that such a good business and a good owner (Danny Sullivan) had to suffer because the admins are not looking after the welfare of the employees but more on protecting themselves.

Barely a month after I was hired in Agents of Value (June 2007), I got a call from our finance officer that our branch manager resigned and the office decided to appoint me as OIC for the night shift. A responsibility that I had to take despite the fact that I had my own client (an additional responsibility which did not give me any extra pay at all – not until around September 2007 where they gave me an additional 1k allowance and overtime pay every time I had to come early and orient the new agents who were coming in).

Things took a major twist when this girl (the girl who used to borrow money from me every time she would run short on her budget – and I was always ready to lend her my money) who used to be my seatmate came up with a malicious rumor that I had an intention to violate some company policy regarding the radmin(remote admin). This resulted to me being insulted in a public place (Basti’s brew in Victoria Plaza) by our finance officer and being called a “Mistress” of our tech admin. An accusation which truly made my family furious! First, she could have verified if the information was true. Second, she could have waited if I was really going to do it. Third, she did not have the right to insult me in a public place (not a proper behavior for somebody who was in the admin). We had something in the company policy that said insulting fellow employees would earn you a memo- which obviously she did not get for whatever reason (only our manager would know – she told me she was going to review the policy and confront her but I can sense she never did it.)

That incident created a gap between me and our finance officer and things were never the same. I am certainly not delighted with her ways. How she also insulted our tech admin and called him a “freak” when the guy was already apologetic for the mess that he created by joking about the radmin thing (an apology which I had accepted).

After that incident, I decided to inform our branch manager that I wanted to get off the position if they could not give it to me on a full time basis. More agents were coming in and my tasks with my client were getting harder so it was kinda difficult to handle both. Of course company policy was not to give up the client (I heard the same thing happened to that girl who came up with that malicious rumor – she was so excited she was going to be promoted to be an AS which made most agents frown in disgust when they heard about it).

Melissa was promoted AS because her client terminated his contract with AOV. A thing that this lady who calls herself “nice” (but she is not in anyway nice) said that she recommended to the admin. Hmm.. are you sure? I was there eating dinner with Angie and our finance officer and I totally heard how Angie recommended Melissa to be a possible candidate – so better not take the credit for doing the recommendation (is she part of the admin that she can do recommendations? –LOL!).

Several other incidents happened: ms. not so “nice” lady writing a blog post intended to maliciously maligned me, mark and Karlo Christmas of 2007 (an act which made her lose her position as PM – for which she begged the admin not to do or at least make her an SEO trainer – LOL! ), me and Angie being called for an urgent private meeting on a Saturday night just so our finance officer can confront us, the finance officer scolding us at 4am because we did not tell our tech admin to go home to his family (oh boy he is all grown up and we do not need to remind him to do that), several agents being warned by the admin just because they were recipients of a video intended to mock ms. “nice” lady (since when did it become one’s fault to receive a video?), Angie given a memo for going out with the night shift agents last Easter Sunday (which according to the admin was supposed to be a team building for Angie the 2 AS- Jules and Mel) – they did not know of course that it was Sir Danny Sullivan’s way of thanking Angie and he just had it that way so there would be no complaints from the other admins (Sir Danny was disappointed at how the Davao office wasted his money by going to expensive restos just to hold admin meetings)- FYI Angie shouldered the rest of the expenses since Sir Danny only provided her with a 2k budget, and of course who could forget that office scandal and screaming done by our finance officer who was so furious that she held Angie’s neck as if she was going to choke her during office hours and in front of all the morning agents.

All these incidents and several others that I may have forgotten to put in here prompted me to come up with a decision - to leave Eversun Software Corporation a.k.a. AOV for I know I will never have peace of mind while at work if I will continue to work for this company. It is a decision that may be risky for I did not know what will happen afterwards but nonetheless I made it.

After resigning from Eversun Software Corporation a.k.a. AOV, my days have been peaceful, and definitely blessings have not stopped pouring in.

I am just so thankful that God had been so good to me and my family. I am just overwhelmed with all the blessings that God has poured upon us that it makes me realize God never ceases to reward those who do not maltreat their fellowmen.
